The Boston-based company Kuka Xoco says that it has made a chocolate bar that is so healthy it can be taken as medicine

Cacao is rich in antioxidants, mineral, and cholesterol-lowering properties.

You might feel better about eating chocolate after reading this.

Kuka Xoco, a Boston-based chocolate company, is creating a chocolate bar that is so healthy you might be able to take it as medicine.

Gregory Aharonian, owner of Kuka Xoco, attended the World Chocolate Forum in London last week and said that the secret to his healthy chocolate are the ingredients — pure cacao made with an herb from the Andean region of Bolivia and Peru. So far, they have only developed a prototype of the product. It is expected to go on sale next year.

“Using micrograms of coca plant extract, we can de-bitter unsweetened cacao,” Aharonian said at the forum. “This eliminates the need for sugar, sweeteners, and much of the fat in chocolate, unleashing the medical benefits of cacao.”

Cacao is rich in minerals, antioxidants, and has cholesterol-lowering properties. Aharonian cited that most American chocolate bars are made up of at least 70 percent fat and sugar. This chocolate bar will only have 35 percent of both. They eventually want to develop a bar with 10 percent in the future.

“In America, the $100 billion-a-year chocolate industry could become a $200 billion-a-year health food industry,” Aharonian told The Daily Mail. “If only much of the sugar and fat could be removed.”
